Avalanche danger & avalanche terrain

Tänndalen carries out avalanche control in terrain where avalanches could affect open lifts or slopes, as well as in Hamra Syd.

Avalanche control is primarily carried out using explosives. However, these measures can never guarantee that the terrain is completely safe from avalanches.

We provide daily updates on avalanche control measures carried out or planned, along with a brief assessment of current conditions.

All skiing outside marked and groomed slopes is considered off-piste and is undertaken at your own risk. Always follow signs, markings and avalanche safety information.

Anyone venturing into ungroomed terrain should have the knowledge and experience needed to assess avalanche risk.

Avalanche danger

Always respect indicated avalanche danger and avalanche information and make sure you have the knowledge required to venture outside marked areas and to assess avalanche danger. In terrain with a slope of 25-30 degrees or more, the risk is always present, even if others have skied in the area.

No avalanche control is carried out in terrain outside the ski area that cannot be accessed from and returned to an open lift or slope without hiking. Avalanche forecasts for these areas are provided by Naturvårdsverket.

Hamra Syd

Tänndalen's first ski area has reopened! In Hamra Syd, it's all about ski touring and off-piste skiing.

RECCO

Tänndalen ski resort is equipped with the RECCO avalanche rescue system.

Avalanche control

To think about

Always carry avalanche safety equipment. Bring an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel, and know how to use them. An avalanche airbag and RECCO reflector provide additional safety measures but do not replace essential rescue equipment. Practise companion rescue regularly.

Never ski alone. Always travel with a partner or group.

Be aware of others. You can trigger an avalanche that puts people below you at risk. Never enter a steep slope if there are people beneath it.

Previous tracks don't mean it's safe. Just because someone has skied a slope before doesn't mean it's free from avalanche danger.

Report avalanche activity. If you witness an avalanche or trigger one yourself, inform the ski patrol or nearest lift operator immediately.
